Charter Communication Operating, LLC has established Spectrum Scholars, an educational program for eligible rising juniors with financial need who identify as Asian/Pacific Islander, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $20,000 total award, half during their junior year and the other half during their senior year. Renewal for their senior year is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by Charter Communication Operating, LLC.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Recipients may be offered internship and/or mentorship opportunities.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Charter Communication Operating, LLC.
Payment is made in August.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. The selection of 40 finalists is made by Scholarship America. The selection of recipients is made by Charter Communication Operating, LLC. Charter Communication Operating, LLC will ask the 40 finalists to complete a 3-minute on-demand interview. Strong preference will be given to students interested in the telecommunications industry.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Award recipients will be given access for a year to WhichWay, a financial literacy tool with interactive financial education modules containing tools and tips that include the following topics:
Participation in Scholarship America’s financial literacy tool, WhichWay is offered to scholarship recipients. Recipients will be invited to register online to participate in financial education activities to help guide a student to financial stability and success.
